This week we have a guest curator. Luis from grade three. Here are his selections and his reasons for picks.
Libby – Grade Four
Luis says that he picked this one because of the rainbowish colours and he thought
that using the torn paper was very creative.
Luis really liked the fish on this card. He also liked the way Nicholas used foil paper
to make the sun look like it was shinning.
Luis likes they way Sarah decorated her card and liked the different textures of the paper.
Luis really liked the way the big star sparkles. He thought the way Innes outlined
the star really helped to make it shine.
Luis picked this card because he liked the “shinny pop up glittery swirl.”

Again this week we have a mixture of student and adult work. We get close up with Doc Emery, one of our elementary art teachers, while Ken Schunk, our Primary Deputy Principal adds a little sparkle to the exhibition. We also have an entry this week from a grade one student and once again two more grade four students.

This week a sent a message out to the Primary and Intermediate teachers at SAS, asking if they would like to make an Artist Trading Card for me. Honestly, I expected everyone to hit the delete button immediately. Instead I was overwhelmed with requests for blank cards. I have started to get the cards back this week and I am amazed by the creativity of my colleagues as well as my students. This week I have chosen three cards created by teachers and two by students.
The first card was created by Jane Dodge one of our grade three teachers. She is an avid quilter and has taken her skills and created an Artist Trading Card using sun dyed cotton, hand painted silk. This tiny masterpiece is hand appliqued and quilted.
Jessie Brown, one of our Intermediate Chinese teachers, as well as an accomplished artist, created a whymsical and butterfly card for our collection. One of our new music teachers Tracy Craig, created a bold musically inspired card.
The student work this week comes from two very different ends of the grade levels I teach. Kalia one of my grade five students and Anya a kindergartener who likes to drop by for a visit on her way to class in the mornings.
Hope that these works inspire you to create your own mini masterpiece.
